Few countries have made success story when it comes to containing the Covid-19 pandemic and its consequences on society and economy.
Governments have allocated much of their 2020 state budgets to contain the pandemic but little headway was made. Medical research institutes came to their rescue by developing vaccinations, which brought about rays of hope among the public.
MobiHealth News in its January 06, 2021 issue, reported: ‘The Kingdom of Bahrain has reportedly become the very first country in the world to allow Covid-19 vaccine appointments via a mobile app (referring to BeAware smartphone application). As of now, the report continues, Bahrain has the second-highest vaccination rate in the world, the first being Israel’.
The strategy and policy devised by Bahrain led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince Prime Minster, has borne fruit, which has attracted international attention and netted global applause.
The government is exploiting every tool under at its disposal including resources allocation and budget allotment to contain the pandemic.
The recent surge in new Covid-19 cases in Bahrain, however, indicates that the public appears to have ignored or relaxed to implement the health precautionary measures set out by the Ministry of Health.
The number of people willing to be vaccinated is increasing which is good news, but vaccination alone does not guarantee us total protection, according to scientists. Therefore, along with vaccination, the wearing of masks, keeping social distancing and taking other precautionary methods should be integrated as part of our life style for some time.
Bahrain may have been listed as one of the countries to have succeeded in containing the Covid-19, however, there is a long way to go to contain the pandemic. It all starts and ends by sticking to the precautionary measures.
