TWO teenagers have been jailed for three years for torching a neighbour’s vehicle in a bid to force him to move out of the area.
The Bahrainis, aged 18 and 19, were found guilty of arson by the High Criminal Court.
They pelted the Bangladeshi victim’s Toyota with Molotov cocktails in Sitra in September last year.
They denied the charges in court but previously said they had wanted him to leave the neighbourhood. Both were found guilty of the charges ‘due to sufficient evidence’.
“The defendants planned and carried out the arson attack against the victim,” read the court ruling. “They wore masks and pelted his vehicle with firebombs.
“They were arrested and found guilty of the charges due to sufficient evidence.”
One of the defendants claimed they had acted in the heat of the moment because their victim allegedly drove his vehicle recklessly.
“The defendant would always bother us and drive fast leaving skid marks in the street,” the 19-year-old said in his statement to prosecutors.
“He would also spit and I got the idea to burn his car to teach him a lesson.
“We then wore masks and torched his vehicle after throwing Molotov cocktails at it. We fled on foot before being later arrested.”
