The Bahrain national handball team is gearing up for the 27th Men’s Handball World Championship in Egypt which starts today.
The Bahraini team members completed their training yesterday and they have been given compulsory rest before the scheduled travel to Cairo to participate in the world championship for the fourth time.
The technical staff had approved the list of 20 players for the World Cup, and the list included a mixture of experienced players, who have participated in various international tournaments, and emerging players who joined the national squad recently.
The list consists of Hussein Al Sayyad, Muhammad Mirza, Muhammad Abdul-Hussain, Jassim Al Salatne, Ali Mirza, Muhammad Habib, Muhammad Abdul Redha, Ali Eid, Hassan Al Samahiji, Hassan Shehab, Ahmed Al Muqabi, Ali Abdul Qadir, Mahdi Saad, Qasim Al Shuwaikh, Hussein Mahfouz Camille Mahfouz, Muhammad Habib, Abdullah Ali, Ahmed Jalal, and Qassem Qambar.
Bahrain, under the watchful eye of Icelandic coach Holder Johann, successfully completed a preparatory programme in which it played four friendly matches against the Egyptian national team, while prevailing health situation prevented them from meeting Algeria, Tunisia, Spain and Brazil.
Bahrain will play their first match against defending champions Denmark on Friday. They meet Argentina on Sunday and Congo on Tuesday in the preliminary round matches.
