A VERDICT date has been set in the trial of a man who allegedly stabbed a driver and stole BD150 from him after hitching a ride.
The 27-year-old Bahraini appeared at the High Criminal Court where he earlier denied theft and assault.
He posed as a hitchhiker and told his Pakistani victim to drive him to Hamad Town on June 20. He then allegedly stabbed the victim twice before fleeing with BD150 he had in his car.
The victim described his ordeal as he identified the defendant in court.
“I was driving home to Riffa when I saw a hitchhiker (the defendant),” he told prosecutors.
“He told me that he had been mugged and his car broke down.
“He asked me to drop him home and I agreed.
“I took him to a restaurant as he wanted some food or drink.
“He then saw me taking money from the car’s glove compartment, where I had kept BD150.
“He stabbed me and fled with the amount.”
A medical examiner’s report showed how the defendant was stabbed in the hand and head.
“The victim suffered stab wounds that could have been lethal,” the report said.
The trial has been adjourned until January 28 for a verdict.
