Social welfare payments for Bahrainis will continue without any reductions this year and the next, it has been revealed.
The government had earlier announced plans to reduce the allocation for welfare schemes in the budget for 2021-22.
However, Shura Council financial and economic affairs committee chairman Khalid Al Maskati yesterday ruled out any reductions.
“We need to direct social welfare to those in most need with a fair approach. The government will hold talks with members of the legislative authority at a later date,” said Mr Al Maskati.
The decision comes as members of Parliament and the Shura Council are meeting to negotiate spending in the new state budget.
