Bahrain: A new Commercial Court to settle financial disputes is on the way in Bahrain.
It will be separate from criminal and civil courts that already exist in the Diplomatic Area.
Bahraini judges have already visited the UK, in co-operation with the British Embassy, to get an insight into the way such specialised courts work, revealed Supreme Judicial Council president and Cassation Court president Salem bin Mohammed Al Kuwari.
“The Commercial Court will benefit business greatly in dealing with disputes and will help increase investments in Bahrain,” he said.
“All investors will be reassured that any cases will be solved quickly and this gives them the trust to come to Bahrain.
“I prefer the Commercial Court to be located separately from the Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Ministry, in the Diplomatic Area, as it will specialise only in commercial cases.
“This includes companies, arbitration, trademarks, intellectual property, stocks, sea and land transportation, bankruptcy and liquidation of financial institutions.
“This is part of a greater plan to establish ‘model courts’, which has been hindered by current financial pressures.
“The project (plan) is available and will be submitted to competent authorities.”
