A POPULAR Thai celebrity and wanna-be politician has set up shop in Bahrain in the latest wave of links between her home country and the kingdom.
Talented Thai actress and model Warapairin Thanawarissaporn with an ‘eye’ for a good business opportunity describes Bahrain as ‘her second home’ after falling in love with the island.
She has teamed up with a Bahraini business partner to open Thai Wara in Adliya that offers a range of Thai health and beauty items and organic farm produce.
“I launched here because of its business-friendly nature and the good relationship between Thailand and Bahrain,” said Ms Thanawarissaporn, the chief executive, who is better known in her homeland by her nickname Eye.
“It’s also thanks to the support of our Thai ambassador Thanis Na Songkhla and Royal Thai Embassy officials.
“I first came here in 2019 and fell in love with Bahrain. It has become a second home to me now. The people here are so warm, accommodating and friendly.”
Thai Mart, the Middle East’s first Thailand focused mall and export complex, recently opened in Bahrain, as reported in the GDN.
The Bangkok-born 30-year-old made a name for herself in the entertainment industry before trying her hand at politics, gaining status as one of the ‘hottest candidates’ to stand in the 2019 elections, according to Thai media reports, despite seriously campaigning for women empowerment.
Eye was one of the stars of a griping beauty pageant Thai-drama Netflix series called Songkram Nang Ngarm, which translates to (War of the Beauty Queen Contestants).
She surprised her fans by throwing her hat into the political ring and recently stood unsuccessfully as a parliamentary candidate representing the Chartthaipattana Party.
Her campaigning, however, helped raise awareness about serious assaults against young women and called for the introduction of the death penalty for rapists.
During the campaign she said: “Sexual harassment happens all the time but sadly rapists are never caught. The punishment has to be more strict, so those people will be afraid of the law. I want Thai people, especially teenagers, to live happy, safe lives.”
The business management graduate from the prestigious Kirk University in Bangkok, who also completed a business certification course in China, and holds two qualifications from the Chulalongkorn University in real estate marketing management strategy and economic business analyst finance, is now focusing on promoting Thai products in Bahrain.
She said: “I look forward to enriching my relations by also guiding and introducing people to healthy living choices.
“Thailand has some amazing quality products that are produced naturally by our local farmers.
“We want to present the community with healthier options such as organic coffee, 100 per cent natural honey, low calorie high nutrition rice and natural scar healing soap which are all certified.
“We are also at the service of Bahrain residents in co-ordinating any product requirements they need from Thailand.”
Eye is currently enjoying a stay in Bahrain and is busy working on an action plan for 2021 in terms of unveiling new brands.
She also hopes to introduce her dad’s solar power company NPS Green Energy in the future. Her father Lapasnithirot is the owner of an engineering group.
