MANAMA: Bahrain’s national origin exports for 2020 amounted to BD2.387 billion, increasing by four per cent from BD2.298bn in 2019, shows the latest report from the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA).
The top 10 trading partners accounted for 74pc of the value of national origin exports last year with the remaining 26pc claimed by other countries, says the report which also includes data on balance of trade, imports and re-exports (national origin).
Saudi Arabia ranked first among countries receiving Bahraini exports of national origin, importing BD536 million worth of products from Bahrain.
Meanwhile, the UAE was second with BD207m and the United States third with BD201m.
Unwrought aluminum alloys emerged as the top product exported during the year with BD383m, whereas unwrought aluminum (not alloyed) was second with a value of BD361m and agglomerated iron ores and concentrates third with BD257m.
The report found that the value of re-exports decreased by 15pc to BD676m during the year when compared with BD795m for the previous year, with the top 10 trading partners accounting for 87pc of the re-exported value.
Saudi Arabia was the leading market for re-exports from Bahrain accounting for a value of BD197m, followed by the UAE with BD178m and the US coming third with BD63m.
Four-wheel drive cars emerged as the top product re-exported from Bahrain with a value of BD100m, followed by gold ingots in second place netting BD54m and agglomerated iron ores and concentrates in third place with BD35m.
The report said value of imports decreased by 4pc to BD4.798bn during the year compared with BD4.984bn for the previous year with the top 10 trading partners accounting for 66pc of the imports value.
According to the report, China was ranked as the top exporter to Bahrain with BD664m, followed by Saudi Arabia with BD352m and Australia in third place with BD330m.
Aluminium oxide emerged as the top product imported into Bahrain with a value of BD332m while non-agglomerated iron ores and concentrates was second at BD292m and four-wheel drive cars in third place with BD175m.
The trade balance, or the difference between exports and imports, amounted to a deficit of BD1.735bn during 2020, an improvement of 8pc when compared with BD1.892bn in 2019.
