Oman has introduced jail terms ranging from three months to three years for deliberately insulting the national anthem.
The newly enacted legal amendments update existing penalties protecting national symbols across the sultanate.
Under the expanded law, national symbols covered by legal protections include the state flag, official emblem and national anthem.
Any insult to the anthem through speech, writing, gesture or distortion will now face mandatory criminal prosecution.
