His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, has said that hostile Iranian strikes targeting residential areas, civilian infrastructure, energy facilities and water desalination plants are blatant violations of international law and international humanitarian law.

“They led to the loss of life and injuries among civilians while threatening regional and global stability. There is no justification and we condemn them in the strongest possible way,” HRH Prince Salman told several leaders and representatives of the GCC, Arab and European Union countries during a remote meeting to discuss regional developments in light of the Iranian aggression against Bahrain and several allied countries.

“Bahrain has consistently advocated for dialogue and diplomacy as the path to lasting stability. But let us be clear: diplomacy cannot succeed under the shadow of missiles and drones. No state can accept attacks on its territory or threats to its people, he said.

HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister said that the meeting came at a defining moment for the region and the world, pointing out that Bahrain, along with GCC countries and Jordan and many others, have faced unprecedented missile and drone attacks.

“The statements issued by the GCC, the GCC-EU Ministerial Meeting, and the Arab League emergency meeting reflected a clear and unified position condemning the unlawful attacks carried out by Iran against our nations.

“The international community needs to act decisively to ensure the protection of international maritime traffic and the flow of goods through the Strait of Hormuz. We call on the European Union and the United Nations Security Council to act with urgency and resolve.

“Failure to do so will lead to further aggression and undermining international peace and security. I would like to add our support to the government of Lebanon and Syria as so eloquently said by King Abdullah and President Al Sisi,” HRH Prince Salman affirmed.

Bahrain does reserve the right to exercise its legitimate right to defend its sovereignty and protect its citizens, in accordance with Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, he said, adding that the international community must send a clear message.

He looked forward to continued close co-operation with partners with the European Union and the wider world.

HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister extended his greetings on the occasion of the final 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan and thanked the European Union for convening the timely meeting.
