The chances of winning a lottery are 1 in 29.2 million. But the winner of the $1.3 billion Mega Millions Jackpot in the US still has not come forward to claim their prize, despite beating all the odds.
The winning lottery ticket was announced on July 29 with Illinois Lottery officials confirming that a player had purchased a ticket with all the winning numbers. The winning lottery ticket was 13, 36, 45, 57, 67 and a mega ball number of 14.
Megan Powers, director of communications for the Illinois Lottery, told NBC News on Friday that the identity of the winner remains a mystery.
“For a prize of this magnitude, it’s not uncommon for a winner to take a little longer to claim a prize because they may want to take professional, legal and financial advice before claiming,” she said.
Illinois winners have up to 12 months from the drawing date to claim the prize and winners of over $250,000 do have the option of remaining anonymous.
The gas station that sold the winning ticket will also receive a $500,000 bonus.
