BAHRAIN’S sporting stage is set to welcome para-athletes from around the world next month to participate in the International Paralympic Badminton Championship for the second year in a row.
The BPC and Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation had hosted more than 180 para-athletes from 33 counties in last year’s major event and BPC chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Duaij Al Khalifa is thrilled to be hosting the championship again.
“Being selected to host the International Paralympic Badminton Championship is evidence of the great reputation that the kingdom enjoys in organising and hosting the largest sporting events in the world, especially Paralympic sports,” he said. “It is worth noting that the committee has hosted a number of regional and international tournaments with the aim of promoting sports tourism in a way that supports the objectives of Bahrain’s tourism strategy for 2022 to 2026. It is also an important aspect in supporting the national economy and Bahrain’s economic 2030 vision by making Bahrain a global destination for hosting sports as well as promoting inclusivity.”
Over the years, the BPC has held the Asian Youth Para Games as well as the West Asian Paralympic Games.
While details for the amount of athletes and sporting categories are yet to be announced, the committee has shared that delegations from across the globe will be in attendance and the championship will be held from May 17 to 24.
The BPC looks forward to welcoming everyone to this major sporting event.
Shaikha Mohammed also praises and appreciates the continuous and unlimited support of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, National Security Adviser and Commander of the Royal Guard, Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) chairman and Royal Humanitarian Foundation’s board of trustees’ chairman, as well as Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, chairman of the General Sports Authority and president of Bahrain Olympic Committee.
The official tournament logo in the colours of the flag has been launched as well symbolising the game of badminton with a palm tree in the middle to highlight the kingdom’s heritage as it’s ‘the country of a million palm trees’.
