Bahrain's table tennis stars doubled the medal tally in the Arab Table Tennis Championship held in Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah province with a total haul of 16, including five gold, four silver and seven bronze medals.
The players recorded a remarkable achievement in the tournament by outperforming others from prominent Arab teams, including Egypt, Jordan and Iraq.
Rashid Sanad and Elias Al Yasi won the gold in the men’s doubles category, in addition to the gold for girls’ doubles for Mariam Al Aali and Amruta Amit, the mixed doubles gold for Sanad and Mariam defeating a Tunisian pair 3-1, in addition to Sayed Nasser Alawi winning in the U-11 category by defeating an Iraqi player 3-1.
Amruta bagged the silver in the girls’ singles category after losing to an Egyptian 3-2 in the final; Sanad lost to Qatar’s Mohammed Abdul Wahab 3-0 in the men’s singles final, while Salman Mohammed lost to a Saudi Arabian player for the third silver.
The duo of Mohammed Nader and Hadi Hussein won bronze in the junior category, and Sayed Nasser Alawi and Hassan Ibrahim won bronze in the buds category.
The girls’ team won gold in the teams category, the U-11 team won silver in the buds, and the men’s team claimed a bronze medal. The delegation will return today.
