Bahrain’s senior men’s football team will play Turkmenistan tonight in an international friendly game in Dubai with their head coach saying his team was well-prepared and looking forward to securing a positive result.
This is the second international friendly Bahrain will play in Dubai inside four days. They lost to Kuwait, 3-1, in the first game last Friday.
But newly-appointed head coach Juan Antonio Pizzi, who assumed charge two months ago, said after that match that, despite the loss, there were several positive takeaways for his team.
And he sounded a similarly optimistic note ahead of the upcoming encounter.
“We have prepared very well for this game,” Pizzi told the GDN by phone from Dubai.
“And we’re looking forward to getting a positive result at the end of a long month during which we first held a training camp in Serbia and then continued with our training here in Dubai.”
A 20-member squad travelled to Stara Pazova, about 40km from the Serbian capital, Belgrade, in mid-August for a fortnight-long training camp during which they also played three practice matches against club sides.
The squad arrived in Dubai on September 2 for the second leg of their overseas training camps.
“We are focused on doing well against Turkmenistan,” Pizzi added.
“A positive result will be the perfect way to end our almost month-long stint away from Bahrain before we head home tomorrow.”
