Iconic international artists and acclaimed Arab entertainers continue to serenade the kingdom with a series of melodic performances during the popular Bahrain International Music Festival this month.
The 32nd edition, which started on Sunday with the Bahrain Philharmonic orchestra, led by maestro Dr Mubarak Najem, is being organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) until October 20 at different venues across the island.
According to Baca director of culture and arts Farah Mattar, this year’s programme is even more extensive, with folk music and bands from the GCC and honorary guests from Jordan and Morocco adding to the festival’s splendour.
“We look forward to seeing full houses at the concerts this year as we’ve seen busy ticket sales for the events at the National Theatre, while concerts at the Cultural Hall and other sites are open to the public free of charge,” she shared.
Tomorrow, the Saudi National Orchestra and choir will entertain music lovers at the National Theatre at 8pm. The team will perform a selection of heritage and taarab songs, as well as individual musical pieces and various forms of local folk arts such as Al Samri, Al Khutwa, Al Khbayti, and Al Yanbu’awi.
The Jordanian Nai Ensemble, which aims to restore the status of the nai, considered one of the oldest musical instruments in Arab culture, will perform at the Cultural Hall on Saturday at 8pm.
On Tuesday, the Moroccan Al Isawiyya Folklore Society Ensemble led by Hajj Saeed Al Kisi will perform at the Cultural Hall, at 8pm. They will present Sufi musical creations that reflect the richness of Moroccan folk heritage.
Other performances will include groups and troupes from China, Kuwait, the UAE, Oman, Germany and India.
