The Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) yesterday held the second race of the 2023-2024 season at its racecourse in Al Raffa, Sakhir in the presence of Supreme Council for Environment Vice-President and REHC deputy chairman Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The eight-round race was held for the cups of the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) and the late Abdulhadi Al Afoo.
Kinks, owned by Isa Mahmood Al Seddiqi, trained by Osama Hashim and ridden by Anas Al Siyabi, won the eighth race for the Late Abdulhadi Al Afoo Cup over a distance of 1,400m.
The seventh race for the GPIC Cup over 1,400m was won by Black Shadow, owned by M and E Racing, trained by Allen Smith and ridden by Lee Newman.
Goemon, owned by Mohammed Khalid Abdulrahim, trained by Haider Ebrahim and ridden by Gerald Mosse, won the sixth race for the GPIC Cup over 1,800m.
The fifth race for locally-bred horses over 2,000m was won by Topaz, owned by Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, trained by Ebrahim and ridden by Abdulla Faisal.
Chronograph, owned by Al Adiyat Racing, trained by Smith and ridden by Mosse, won the fourth race for imported horses over 2,200m.
The third race over 1,000m for imported horses was won by Ibn Arabi, owned by Captain Al Nassr Syndicate, trained by Ali Nasser and ridden by Ebrahim Nader.
Ghaarah, owned by Al Bastaki Racing, trained by Salahuddin Al Bastaki and ridden by Carlos Henrique, won the second race for locally bred horses over 1,200m straight.
The day’s opening race over 1,200m was won by Obeyan 1867, owned by Al Wasmiya, trained by Abdulla Kuwaiti and ridden by A Rahim Jasim.
GPIC CEO Yasser Abdulrahim Al Abbasi presented the trophies of the GPIC Cup to Salah Abdullatif, the winning owner of the second round, Mohammed Khalid Abdulrahim, the winning owner of the sixth round, and Allen Smith, the winning trainer of the seventh round.
Meanwhile, Al Afoo Company managing director Abdulredha Al Afoo presented the trophy of the late Abdulhadi Al Afoo Cup to Shaikh Sultan Al Deen bin Mohammad bin Salman Al Khalifa.
The eight-round race was attended by royal family members and equestrian sports fans in big numbers.
