Al Ahli and Muharraq are gearing up for the eagerly-awaited final showdown of the King Cup Championship 2023-24.
The final is scheduled to be held on Saturday at Bahrain National Stadium from 6.30pm.
Despite playing against Sitra on Monday in the Nasser Bin Hamad Premier League, Al Ahli refused to have a break and commenced preparations for the final with a training session held yesterday on Al Malikiya playground. The same stadium will also host the club’s other training sessions and an internal camp from tomorrow to Saturday.
Meanwhile, Muharraq will today hold their training session for the final showdown after a break yesterday following a match against Al Khalidiya in the Premier League.
The administrative and technical staff of both teams are working on physical, technical and mental preparation of the players to reach the required level of readiness to win the title.
The final will be the teams’ second encounter this season after their match in the Premier League which ended in a draw.
Muharraq, who possess 19 titles in this competition, the latest of which was in 2019-20, are looking forward to clinching the 20th trophy in their history while Al Ahli are hoping to make up for their failure in 2020-21 and 2022-23 by winning their sixth title.
- The Bahrain Football Association (BFA) has approved prize money of BD10,000 that will be given away as cash prizes for the public attending the final.
- BFA secretary general Rashid Al Zaabi said football fans who attend the final will have a chance to win 200 cash prizes allocated for the event. He said the aim is to motivate people to attend the match and enhance the players’ enthusiasm. He also wished the finalists success.
