Culture is one of the most important terms in the lives of all individuals as it is not possible to build a society without it. In sociology, culture is a set of behaviours, principles and beliefs that each individual has and that are compatible with religion and the social environment.
One of the important things about culture is that it makes a person adhere to a system of rules, behaviours and laws that become habits over time, and they feel anxious and stressed if they violate them or deviate from them. This means that it builds in the person’s mind an internal system that makes him correct his behaviour on his own.
Recently, a dear friend from Saudi Arabia told me about an incident. He had to contact someone in Austria and rang him up, but the person did not answer his call immediately. He called him several times to no avail. After more than two hours, he answered the call, and when asked about the reason for the delay, he said that in Austria people wouldn’t take mobile phones with them during visits. He further explained that the presence of a mobile phone with every person during a visit will inevitably lead to distractions. The person may not be able to focus on, or enjoy the conversation with others, which is essentially the goal of a meeting.
I liked the idea and I was wondering what prevents us from applying it here.
It is a very simple concept and I believe it is not difficult or impossible as we are the ones who place obstacles ahead of us instead of developing solutions to various issues.
Mobile phones have become ubiquitous within our society, and many would now consider them a necessity rather than a convenience. However, there is no harm in adopting good practices from other cultures.
God Almighty did not create us with perfect traits, and the smart ones are those who admire and embrace the wonderful qualities and attributes of other people and abandon the bad ones.
Parents can set an example for children by adopting such practices in their lives. Yes, some may say that it’s hard to convince children, that is our problem, but we need to strive.
Through this platform, let us try implementing this idea with friends. I am certain that its positives will outweigh the negatives.
Most people are now addicted to their mobile phones. The problem is not only ours but in all parts of the world. It is a tax we pay because of modern technology, and as they say, everything has pros and cons.
For example, social media is a wonderful world and smart applications on our mobile phones make our lives much easier.
I believe the optimal use of smartphones is the key as they are a wonderful tool for accomplishing much of our work wherever we are on the planet.
The flaw, in my opinion, lies in its misuse. For example, it is not permissible to use a mobile phone while driving. I am certain many minor and fatal accidents occur due to the use of a mobile phone while driving.
In conclusion, I wish everyone, individuals and civil society institutions, professional and civil associations, public and private schools, and families, who have the greatest responsibility in confronting such a phenomenon in society. I also call on the general public, both citizens and expatriates, to take the initiative and begin implementing these correct practices.
