THE First Bahrain Baby Olympics came to a close in a spectacular fashion on Wednesday at the Bahrain Volleyball Association Hall at Isa Sports City near the National Stadium.
Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) secretary general Abdulrahman Askar presented medals to all the participants at the closing ceremony.
It was followed by the Morning Star Nursery pupils Lily Inserro and Maram Mandagag putting off the Olympic torch to officially declare the Baby Olympics closed.
The Bahrain Sports Federation for Disabilities hosted the athletics events which included competitions in spring run, hurdles and kids relay. It was open to kindergarten children aged between four and five.
A gymnastics contest was also staged at the Bahrain Table Tennis Association Hall for three-year-old kids.
This first-of-its-kind event was organised by the BOC in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labour and Social Development.
Kim Ferreira, director of the Children’s House Montessori Kindergarten and the Morning Star Montessori Nursery, said she was delighted to have been invited to take part in the Baby Olympics, which she described as an opportunity for children to indulge in physical activity rather than play with video games.
Afia Naseer, a teacher at the First Step Nursery, said it was a honour to take part in this event.
