BAHRAIN will host the 19th Asian Men’s Under-20 Volleyball Championship at Isa Sports City in Riffa from July 21 to 28, the Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) confirmed last night.
This prestigious biennial competition is being held for the second time on the island.
Bahrain previously hosted this event in 2014, when the hosts finished an impressive fourth in what was their 10th appearance in the Asian U20s.
The semi-final berth marked their best-ever classification in the tournament.
This year’s championship also acts a qualifier for the FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship scheduled for next year.
Preparations are already well underway and a meeting was held earlier this week by the organising committee at the BVA headquarters at Isa Sports City.
It was chaired by tournament director Feras Halwachi as per directives from BVA president Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa.
More than 20 countries will be competing in this year’s event.
