BAHRAIN took its tally to 36 medals by the end of the penultimate day of the 26th GCC Water Sports Championship being held in Dammam.
Yesterday, Bahrain bagged three gold, three silver and one bronze.
Ali Sadiq Al Alawi claimed the first gold winning the 100m freestyle in the 11-12 age group in 1.03.52 minutes. He was followed by two Omani swimmers Khalfan Al Waheebi and Ammar Al Waheebi in second and third places respectively.
The second gold for Bahrain yesterday came through Sanad Abdulla Ibrahim who won the 50m backstroke (13-14 age group). He was followed by Qatar’s Hassan Al Obaidan in second and Ali Al Isa of Saudi Arabia third.
Abdulrahman Mubarak won Bahrain’s third gold in 200m butterfly in 2:24.67 minutes. His teammate Abdulla Isa claimed silver in 2:30.83 while Saud Abu Guwwa of Saudi Arabia bagged bronze.
Bahrain’s second silver medal was claimed by Abdulla Khalid Jamal in the 200m breaststroke (13-14 age group) in 2:40.73 minutes. He finished behind the winner Isa Al Nasser of Saudi Arabia. UAE’s Ahmed Aydaroos was third.
The third silver medal for Bahrain was won by Ahmed Abdulnabi in the 50m breaststroke (11-12 age group). The event was won by Oman’s Muhannad Awlad while Qatar’s Abdulrahman Al Daleel was third.
The only bronze medal for Bahrain yesterday was won by Abdulaziz Darraj in the 1,500m (15-17 age group) in 18:37.38 minutes. Qatar’s Abdulla Abu Ghazal won the gold while Ammar Khalifa of Saudi Arabia claimed the silver.
Bahrain are currently in second place overall in the junior category with a total of 21 medals (6 gold, 8 silvers and 7 bronze).

Qatar is leading the junior category with 18 gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze while Saudi Arabia are third with five gold, 11 silver and six bronze.
Meanwhile, Bahrain juniors won 13 medals in the evening contest of second day of the championship, with three gold, five silvers and five bronze.
