AL NAJMA edged out Qatar’s Al Duhail, 28-26, in a thrilling Group B game yesterday to keep their chances alive of qualifying for the next round of the 25th Asian Men’s Club League Handball Championship to be held in Isfahan, Iran.
Having lost their opening game 38-36 to defending champions Kuwait SC a day earlier, Bahrain champions Al Najma needed to win yesterday to have any hope of staying in contention for a slot in the semi-finals.
According to the tournament’s format, the top two teams from each group go on to the semi-finals.
Following their victory against Al Duhail, Al Najma are currently in third position in the six-team table with two points, behind leaders Kuwait, who have four points from two consecutive wins and the Qatari club, who also have two points but are ahead of the Bahraini side because of goal difference.
Al Najma will now play China’s Junior Club in their third match today.
