THE curtain fell yesterday on the second week of the International Tennis Federation Junior Championship for the “J30” category, hosted by the Bahrain Tennis Federation (BTF) at the BTF courts in Isa Town, with Turkish player Bora Bakiji claiming a double triumph with the boys’ singles and doubles titles and Russian Alina Sogomonian with the girls’ singles title.
The winners and runners-up were presented their prizes by BTF secretary general Fouad Al Ruwai’i, BTF technical committee chairman Mohammed Salman and chief referee Ahmed Al Hawaj.
The boys’ singles final was an exciting three-set affair with Bora fighting back from a set down to overcome Spaniard Andres Perero 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The girls’ singles final was no less exciting, as Alina defeated Kazakhstan’s battling star Aryna Gogolina 6-3, 6-4.
In the boys’ doubles final, Bora and partner Jagan Twfikci won the title after defeating the duo of American Venkat Rishi and Romanian Dev 6-3, 7-5.
Meanwhile, the Kazakh pair of Aryna and Aida Omarbek won the girls’ doubles title after defeating Indian Pallavi Patel and Slovenian Luisa Fusel 6-4, 6-1 in the final held on Friday at the Bahrain Tennis Association.
