Bahrain continued to lead the Arab teams after clinching first place at the Arab level and eighth at the Asian level in the final standings of the teams participating in the freestyle wrestling competition in the 2024 Asian Wrestling Championship.
The championship is being hosted by Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek from April 11 to 16 with the participation of 23 teams from Asia, including Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Palestine and Yemen.
The national wrestling team was able to make the new achievement after claiming one gold and three bronze medals. Akhmed Tazhudinov won gold in 97kg while Kihdir Saipudinov, Magomed Sharipov and Shamil Sharipov bagged bronze in the 79kg, 92kg and 125kg categories.
The General Sport Authority deputy chairman and Bahrain Combat Sports Council chairman Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa praised the accomplishment, describing it as the dividend of the support of His Majesty King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for the sport sector.
