BAHRAIN’S Elyas Abdulnabi fell to a 6-1, 6-1 defeat against Serbia’s Viktor Jovic in the boys’ singles quarter-finals of the eighth ITF Junior Tennis Championship at Bahrain Tennis Club courts in Juffair.
Viktor will now face India’s Siddhrth Thakran who overcame third-seeded Egyptian Ahdam Gaber 1-6, 7-6(1), 6-1 yesterday.
The second semifinal will see British Sebastian Tong, who recorded a win over Swiss Andrija Pavlovic 6-4, 6-2, come up against compatriot Jomes Tom Thelwall who defeated Fahad Al Janahi 6-3, 7-5.
The girls’ singles quarter final stages saw top-seeded Hala Khaled of Egypt overcome India’s Aaliya Ebrahim 6-2, 6-0.
Hala will face fourth-seeded Alexandra Hunter of Britain, who overcame India’s Salsa Aher 7-5, 6-1.
The second semi-final set to take place today will see second-seeded Hala Fouad of Egypt come up against seventh seed Zeynep Sena Sarioglan from Turkey.
The latter managed a win over Iranian Sadaf Sadeghvaziri 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 while Hala Fouad registered a 6-3,6-4 win over Themis Haliou from Cyprus.
The boys’ doubles semi-finals saw British duo Oliver Mayo and Sebastian Tong register a 6-2, 6-4 win over Bahrain’s Ali Dawani and his Iranian teammate Armin Rostami.
The duo will face Oman’s Younis Al Rawahi from Oman and his British teammate Tom Thelwall Jones, who defeated Norwegian Christian Linge and India’s Siddharth Thakran 6-3, 6-2.
In girls’ doubles, British duo Amelia Bissett and Annali Olivelle overcame Egypt’s Hala Khaled and Iran’s Sadaf Sadeghvaziri 6-4, 6-4 to book their ticket to the final.
They will come up against another British player in Alexandra Hunter, who qualified for the final along with her teammate from Cyprus, Themis Haliou, after they defeated Indian teammates Salsa Aher and Rashmika Rajan 4-6, 6-2 (10-2).
