FIGHTERS from the National Mixed Martial Arts team (MMA) and Khalid bin Hamad Mixed Martial Arts organisation team KHK MMA are gearing up to participate in the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) European Open Championships for Amateurs to be held in Prague from Tuesday to Saturday.
The Bahraini delegation is the only one from the Gulf and the second from the Arab world taking part in this event. Lebanon is the other Arab country in the fray while Pakistan is the only other Asian nation to be present at the event.
First deputy president of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, honourary president of Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Association and founder of KHK MMA Organisation Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa said that Bahrain’s participation in this global championship is a clear recognition of the Kingdom’s growing reputation at the world level.
Shaikh Khalid thanked Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, chairman of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and president of Bahrain Olympic Committee, for his support and encouragement.
“Today we find ourselves here participating for the fourth time in a row in this championship by the IMMAF, through which we have achieved two bronze medals. Our hopes in this edition has no bounds and exceeds expectations. I have great confidence in my brothers in the national team and my team to perform to the best of their abilities,” said Shaikh Khalid.
Hussain Ayad and Fahad Abdulrazaq have won a bronze medal each at this event.
Fighters from 29 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa and North America will be taking part in this championship.
