As the unveiling of Samsung Galaxy S8 is just months away, it's expected that rumour mills are working in full swing.
How does the new device looks? What are the new features? What will be the price like? Will it be better than the iPhone 7? - These questions are already harrowing fans and detractors alike..
Well, a report has created some buzz talking about a possible new feature linked with S8.
Steve Litchfield of All About Windows Phones says that one of his sources brought him a slide, claimed to be from an upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 presentation.
Interestingly, the slide shows a mobile device connected to a monitor and reads 'Samsung Desktop Experience'.
Steve conjectures that Samsung is perhaps trying to imitate a Continuum-like workspace where Windows phones can be connected to a TV or monitor using a dock or adapter, and then you can use your apps and see your content on a larger screen.
Steve says, "There are several interesting things here, assuming that all this is for the Galaxy S8 and is going to be a real shipping 'experience'. The slide clearly shows a wired, connected solution, with the phone tethered to the monitor directly. Now, we've been able to connect smartphones directly to monitors in the past (e.g. here), but this is the first time that I've seen a non-Windows smartphone expand what's shown in the way depicted above, with a full desktop experience, multi-windowing, and so on.
As to exactly what's going on here we can only guess. Mine is that the graphic, obviously a mock-up, shows one of the various multi-windowed implementations of Android - it's not at all clear how this ties in with Samsung's plans for TouchWiz, but it's conceivable that (perhaps inspired by Continuum) Samsung has engineered the OS to handle both single window phone use and multi-window desktop use depending on what's physically hooked up via USB Type C.
Also shown is a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, presumably paired with the phone."
Take this information with a pinch of salt as its authenticity can't be verified till Samsung comes out with their new device or issues a statement. However, if true, this may open a host of possibilities for the phone manufacturer who had a rather 'explosive' run last year with the Note 7.
