A woman in her late 40's got the fright of her life when she saw a red-bellied snake popping its head out from underneath the bonnet of her car.
Sally Grundy, was driving her car at 100km/hr from Adelaide to Mundoo Island Station in South Australia when the incident happened.
Petrified that the snake might somehow get inside the car, Grundy decided to abandon her car in a paddock on her property.
"It scared the living daylights out of me," she posted on Facebook.
"He stayed with us all the way and could not be coaxed out of the engine well."
"I have left my car in the middle of a paddock and hope that he finds his way out tonight."
"Petrified would sum up my nervous state for the hour I had to drive."
“I was hopeful that new cars don't have any gaps that a snake could move from the engine well into the internal section of the car!”
She hoped that by the time she returns, the snake would have gone.
In an update posted on Facebook 10 hours ago; the snake was still sitting coiled inside the engine.
Commenting on the FB post, someone suggested grabbing the snake by the tail and gently prising it from the engine. However, Grundy says that the snake just went deeper into the engine when she tried to move him.
One of the last updates is that Sally will give the snake one more night to get out of her car before she gets a professional to move him from her car.
