Three people suspected of feeding a cat to two fierce dogs are under investigation in Dubai.
Police arrested two Asian expatriates and one Gulf national in connection with the case and referred them to the Public Prosecution to be charged.
The suspects were arrested after a video emerged of a caged cat being fed to two dogs, said commander-in-chief of Dubai Police Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri.
If convicted, the trio could be jailed up to one year and/or fined AED200,000, under law 18 of 2016, recently issued by UAE President Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.
Under the same law, anyone using animals in unauthorized scientific experiments, faces one year in jail and fines ranging from AED50,000 to AED200,000.
People found dealing in exotic animals could also be imprisoned and fined up to AED500,000.
