An Asian expatriate has been sentenced to ten years in prison for spying in the United Arab Emirates, according to Al Bayan newspaper.
The Federal Court of Appeals convicted the defendant of supplying a foreign country with sensitive military and security information about a vital facility in Mina Zayed.
Investigations revealed that the convict collaborated with agents working for intelligence agencies in that foreign country and gave them confidential information.
The court ordered the convict to pay the costs of the case, in addition to the seizure of equipment which were confiscated during the investigation, including cameras used to photograph prohibited areas.
The convict, identified only by his initials 'Sh.S.M' will be deported from the UAE after serving his jail term.
