The Sri Lankan Consul General in Jeddah, Faizer Mackeen, passed away yesterday at a private hospital due to heart problems.
According to Akhbar 24/Saudi Gazette newspaper, his body will be taken today to Al Amoudi Mosque in Al Khaldiya district, where a funeral prayer will be held, before his burial at Al Maalat cemetery.
The deceased was admitted to the intensive care unit of King Faisal Specialist Hospital after suffering a heart attack soon after he addressed an Independence Day ceremony at the consulate on February 4.
A politician belonging to the ruling United National Party, Mackeen was named the consul general in Jeddah in May last year.
He hailed from Kalutara district in Sri Lanka's Western Province.
