Alliance Bahrain made yet another remarkable achievement at the recently-concluded Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, part of the Jiu jitsu World Tour 2016-17, at Excel Arena in London.
Team members Nijad Algosaibi (blue belt 85kg) and Ali Monfaradi (brown belt 77kg) took one gold medal apiece, guiding the kingdom to a respected finish at one of the world’s most prestigious jiu jitsu events.
The fifth and final leg of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam brought 806 athletes from 59 countries competing under one roof, including participants from the UK, Brazil, Poland, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Belgium, Norway and the UAE.
It’s one of UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation’s best event of the season, in the highest paid jiu-jitsu world tour.
The Bahrain representatives were given a special welcome on return by top sports officials in Bahrain, including Supreme Council for Youth and Sports deputy general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar.
Askar congratulated both players as well as their coach Reza Monfaradi on this outstanding outcome.
Also present at the reception were BOC board member and Women’s Sport Committee chairwoman Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, Bahrain Martial Arts Association general secretary Khalid Al Hassan and BOC Media and Public Relations director Mohammed Lori.
