The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment banned imports of live domestic, wild and ornamental birds, chicks, hatching eggs and bird remains from the Lincoln district in Tennessee, US, which have not been heat-treated, according to WAM.
''The ban is based on the notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) which reported highly pathogenic avian influenza in commercial farms in Tennessee," said Dr Majid Sultan Al Qasimi, director of Animal Health and Development Department.
The ban does not apply to imports of thermally-treated poultry products (treated meat and processed egg products) and thermally-treated poultry waste from the US.
The ministry also prohibited imports of wild and domestic birds, ornamental birds, chicks, hatching eggs and their wastes which are not thermally treated from Malaysia, due to the outbreak of a highly-pathogenic avian influenza in commercial farms in the province of Kelantan.
Imports of poultry meat and thermally not treated products and table eggs have also been temporarily banned from the province.
Imports of thermally treated poultry products (treated meat and processed egg products) and thermally treated poultry waste from all provinces of Malaysia will continue.
The ban will also apply to imports of poultry meat, eggs and other related products that have not been heat-treated from the state.
