READING the calls for Donald Trump to stay out of Syria, or for the West to stay out of any distant conflict, brings to mind the words of Edmund Burke: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing”.
Many of us wouldn’t rush to describe Trump as a good man, and ill-conceived interventions can be calamity, as they were in Iraq and Vietnam .
