Bahrain claimed gold medal in under-14 doubles category of the 17th GCC Table Tennis Championship being held in Sharjah.
Bahrain also clinched the under-18 doubles silver and men’s doubles bronze.
Bahrain’s team of Salman Mohammed and Ibrahim Habeeb Ashoor claimed gold medal in the U-14 doubles category by defeating Saudi Arabia team 3-1 in the final. Both Mohammed and Ashoor are the youngest players in the championship and their coach Hamad Buhijji is the youngest coach.
Meanwhile, Bahrain duo Murtadha Hussain and Sayed Ali Mahmood claimed silver medal in the U-18 doubles category after losing to Qatar in the final.
In the men’s doubles category, the team of Mohammed Abbas Abdulwahab and Elyas Al Yasi claimed the bronze medal.
Bahrain Table Tennis Association President Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa made a phone call to congratulate the players for their outstanding achievements and wish them success in the upcoming events.
The championship will conclude today with the singles contest of all ages categories – U-14, U-16, U-18 and Men.
