The final season of Downton Abbey, the British drama series, is almost ready to air. The crew wrapped up the filming of the final episode and reports say there was not a single dry eye on the set.
Even Carson (actor Jim Carter) who plays the butler and is seen as one of strongest characters got emotional.
During a recent appearance at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Carter told the audience how hard it was to film the show’s final scenes. “I thought I would say goodbye to the crew who work so hard,” Carter said. “Seeing their faces sobbing, it just did me in. We were puddles.”
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (front row center), took an official photo with the cast of "Downton Abbey" Season 6 on March 12.Downton Abbey executive producer Gareth Neame, who was also at the festival, revealed that Carter wasn’t the only gent to tear up as the series drew to a close. While editing the final episodes, Neame said that the cutting room contained “four middle-aged men trying not to cry in front of each other.”
So what is the final episode that made them cry?
“I am not going to give a spoiler,” Carter told audiences carefully, “but these characters, we say goodbye to them, but it is not final. . . . We see them setting off on different paths."
“It is really satisfying,” Carter added of the finale, which will air in the U.K. over the holidays. “You will need two hankies on Christmas night.”
