Jurnas launched their campaign with a fine 2-0 victory against Majestic Cars as the third Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Sports Games ‘Nasser 10’ football tournament kicked off at Khalifa Sports City Stadium yesterday.
After Ahmed Al Yaqoubi opened the scoring in the 24th minute, Jurnas had to wait until the 81st minute to put the match beyond doubt with a goal scored by substitute Netham Al Deen Abduljabar.
Al Yaqoubi’s performance rewarded him with the best of the match award.
The day’s only other match, also in Group 1, between title holders Victorious and Suqoor Al Bahrain was still being played at the time of going to press.
Meanwhile, the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa-led Forever team will open their title bid against Al Nawayef in a high-profile match today. The former have made many changes to their squad and technical staff to stay in top form. Al Nawayef, on the other hand, won the fourth edition of the tournament but have failed to repeat the feat.
In the other Group 3 game today, Al Wehda Team will face Al Saqr Al Abyadh at 5.50pm.
Coached by Bahraini Tariq Bucheery, Al Wehda team eye a victory to avoid complications in subsequent matches. Al Saqr Al Abyadh, meanwhile, are among the teams that will feature for the first time in Nasser 10.
This will be followed by the match between Forever and Al Nawayef.
Meanwhile, His Majesty the King’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa expressed his appreciation towards National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) for sponsoring the activities of the third Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Sports Games ‘Nasser 10’.
Praising the role of NBB board of directors Chairman Farouk Al Moayyad, Shaikh Nasser said the bank’s support would undoubtedly contribute to the success of the event.
NBB’s sponsorship was handed by its President Jean-Christophe Durand to Nasser 10 High Organising Committee President Tawfiq Al Salehi in the presence of Local Banking Group General Manager Abdulaziz Abdullah Al Ahmad.
Al Salehi conveyed the greetings and appreciation of Shaikh Nasser to NBB chairman, directors and Durand.
Durand said Nasser 10 was one of the most prestigious sports events in the region, adding that the bank considered it as a platform to develop youth and to exchange experiences in sports.
“This is why we are proud to be a partner with Nasser 10. Supporting this special event is a testament to the bank’s commitment to health, sports and honest competition among the youth of Bahrain.
