A new medical tourist visa enabling foreign patients to be treated in Abu Dhabi will take effect from Sunday (August 6).
The General Directorate of Exits and Airports at the Department of Nationality and Residence will start issuing the new visa for a trial period.
It announced the new scheme during a workshop held in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Health Authority to shed light on medical tourism visas.
The new system will facilitate visa procedures for foreigners who opt to receive medical treatment in Abu Dhabi.
Under this programme, health establishments affiliated with the medical tourism scheme will apply for visit visas for their international patients.
Interior Ministry’s Exits and Airport director-general Brigadier Aziz Humood Al-Ameri said that international patients will have, from Sunday, the possibility of applying for individual or collective visas.
The medical tourism visas will be valid for 90 days and can be renewed whenever necessary – pending a demand submitted by the hospital.
