Riyadh: Former Qatari premier Shaikh Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani has, for the first time, revealed details of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gadaffi’s plot against Saudi Arabia.
In an interview to Qatar TV on Wednesday, he confirmed the authenticity of the leaked recordings about conspiracy against the kingdom.
Saudi activists recently circulated on social media two audio recordings of former Qatari Amir Shaikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Shaikh Hamad bin Jassim and Gadaffi plotting against Saudi Arabia and the ruling family.
The records, leaked in 2014 – and likely dating back to 2003 – allegedly reveal the Qatari leaders’ plans to destabilise and divide Saudi Arabia.
In one recording, Shaikh Hamad bin Jassim said that “in 12 years Saudi Arabia will no longer exist, but will be divided into small states”. The former Qatari Amir also asserted that the Saudi regime would not continue for long.
“If Americans succeed in Iraq, the second step would be Saudi Arabia,” the records reveal him as saying.
He also criticised Egypt and Jordan for co-ordinating with Saudi Arabia. He declared support for channels that attack Saudi Arabia as well as for Saad Al Faqih, a pro-Muslim Brotherhood advocate.
Furthermore, he asserted his plan to encourage internal movements to destabilise the kingdom, according to a report in our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.
