Afridi, who was on a private visit to Bahrain, met Malik at the Pakistan Embassy and discussed ways to expand sports and youth co-operations between Pakistan and Bahrain.

Speaking after presenting the award to Afridi, Malik said: “Shahid Afridi is without doubt one of the most accomplished sportsmen of our country and his achievements in the field of cricket are globally recognised.”

He said that during his illustrious career, Afridi not only won countless matches for Pakistan but also won the hearts of millions with his spectacular performance with the bat as well as the ball, and he is indeed a true icon for the youth.

While thanking Malik and the Pakistani community, Afridi said that he was extremely grateful for the love and appreciation that he has received in Bahrain, adding that the Kingdom is one of his favourite countries to visit.

Malik said that efforts were underway to promote closer relations between Pakistan and Bahrain in the field of sports.
