The footbridge over the new Dubai Water Canal has now become an emblem of tolerance.
UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum gave directives to name the milestone “Bridge of Tolerance”.
"Tolerance is an indispensable value of the UAE people and a guarantee for future development," Shaikh Mohammad tweeted.
“We have issued instructions to name the most beautiful pedestrian bridge in Dubai over Dubai Water Canal as the Bridge of Tolerance. Our bridges are always literally and metaphorically linked to humans.”
“Our bridges link between people allegorically and in reality”, he said on his Twitter account.
The move was announced as the UAE prepares to join other nations in celebrating the World Tolerance Day, which falls on November 16.
