A giant whale washed up on the shores off Khorfakan in Sharjah, Emarat Al Youm newspaper reported.
The Municipality of Khorfakan pulled out the 16-metre-long mammal and transported it to Khor Kalba’a Reserve to take samples for lab tests and determine the cause of its death.
The giant mammal belongs to the species of Humpback whales, which are enormous creatures that can grow to 18 metres long, and weigh up to 40 tons - about half the size of a blue whale.
Environment and Protected Areas Authority chairperson Hana Seif Al Suweidi said that the remains of the mammal would be buried at Al Qarm reserve and its carcass would be displayed at an exhibition, which will be opened next year in the city of Kalba’a.
