SUPREME Council for Youth and Sports deputy general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar congratulated members of the cycling and weightlifting teams on their recent achievements.
Promising cyclist Mohammed Ebrahim Abdulla gave Bahrain its maiden medals at the Arab Track and Field Championships in Sharjah in December winning a silver and bronze medal.
In weightlifting, another rising athlete Ibtisam Ali helped Bahrain claim 25 medals at the Arab and Afro-Asian Championships in Cairo, also in December.
In his meeting with representatives of both teams at the BOC premises in Seef, Askar said he is proud of the outstanding results at regional and international events.
Askar also praised the efforts of both federations in developing their respective sports and vowed to continue supporting all national sports federations.
Board member of BOC and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and Women’s Sport Committee chairwoman Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, Bahrain Cycling Association president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Bahrain Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Federation vice-president Sultan Al Ghanim were also present at the reception.
