The Dubai-based Global Village entered the Guinness World Records with the biggest cup of hot karak chai, the popular Indian tea, in the world, Al Bayan reported.
The city of Shanghai in China set a new world record last year, boasting the largest cup of tea, but that honour has not lasted more than a year.
A team of 138 chefs from different hotels and restaurants of Dubai began preparing the tea from 9am onwards.
The Global Village giant cup contained 5,000 litres of fresh karak chai, stripping Shanghai of its record of 4,050 litres of tea.
The impressive white tea cup has a height of 3.66 metres and a top inner diameter of 1.42 metres. It is estimated that the quantity of karak chai would be enough to serve 55,000 cups to tea drinkers.
