Kuwait City: Chilling details of the murder of Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Joanna Demafelis have been in several media reports.
According to these reports, Joanna was unconscious and not dead before she was stuffed into the freezer.
Her employer, Lebanese Nader Essam Assaf reportedly confessed to the police that he had put Demafelis in the freezer himself before she was dead.
He claimed that his Syrian born-wife Mona Hassoun got "addicted" to torturing the Filipina.
The couple are the main suspects in the death of 29-year-old Demafelis, whose body was found two weeks ago inside a freezer in an apartment in Kuwait.
She had been reported missing for almost a year.
Demafelis flew to Kuwait in 2014 to work as a domestic worker.
Her employers allegedly killed her and fled Kuwait in early December 2016.
Assaf was transferred to Beirut but his wife remains in custody in Damascus.
A Lebanese judicial official said the couple had left Kuwait and made a "very brief stopover" in Lebanon before travelling on neighbouring Syria.
Demafelis's death prompted outrage in the Philippines and a ban on Filipinos travelling to work in Kuwait.
Both suspects became the subject of an international manhunt aided by Interpol.
Philippines foreign secretary Alan Peter Cayetano welcomed the news of the arrests, calling it a "critical first step in our quest for justice for Joanna".
Kuwaiti authorities have vowed to do everything possible to see justice is done.
Mr Cayetano said he expected Kuwaiti authorities to request the extradition of Assaf from Lebanon, to stand trial in Kuwait.
The death of Demafelis prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to order the repatriation of Filipino workers from Kuwait and banned the deployment of new hires to the Gulf country.
