THREE men jailed for a house burglary, during which one of them had sex with the housemaid, have lost appeals against two-year jail sentences.
The Bahrainis, aged 22, 24, 25, stole gold bracelets, earrings, a marriage certificate, birth certificate and passports from a home in Muharraq.
An Ethiopian maid who worked in the house claimed they broke in while the owners were out and held her at knifepoint before one of them raped her.
However, it later emerged she was in a relationship with one of the defendants and willingly had sex with him during the burglary.
The three burglars were convicted of theft by the High Criminal Court and the verdict has now been upheld by the Supreme Criminal Appeals Court.
“The court found the maid’s recounting of the incident unbelievable after investigations showed she was in a relationship with one of the defendants,” stated the appeal ruling.
“However, there were no signs that she had been raped."
“She was having sex with one of the defendants while the homeowners were out of the house, after she allowed him in.
“He and his co-defendants then carried out the burglary.”
The Bahraini homeowner described his shock when he returned home to find his house had been burgled.
“I came back home and saw the maid crying,” he told prosecutors.
“She said a gang of masked men had broken in and one of them raped her before they stole our belongings.”
