Jeddah – The Saudi border guards took control of Salwa crossing with Qatar, according to Sabaq online.
The departments of passports and customs handed over their control of the border crossing in a sign that work on the Salwa water canal could start soon.
Well-informed sources confirmed that the Saudi guards would take full control of the whole border area.
The planned water canal would be excavated along the borders with Qatar as part of an integrated project to be financed by a consortium of Saudi and Emirati private sector investors.
According to the sources, Saudi Arabia would set up a military base in part of the 1-kilometer zone separating the Qatari borders from the planned Salwa water channel.
The remaining Saudi part would be used to set up a nuclear burial dumping site, in compliance with world environmental standards.
The UAE nuclear reactor and burial site would also be located at the furthest point of the Emirati borders with Qatar.
