Abu Dhabi - The Court of Appeals of Abu Dhabi has today confirmed the death penalty, which was handed down to a Pakistani man convicted of killing Azan Majid.
It upheld the verdict which was issued by the Criminal Court, sentencing the Pakistani defendant to death over the brutal murder of an 11-year-old boy last Ramadan.
The 33-year-old convict was found guilty of strangling the 11-year-old boy to death after raping him at the rooftop of their Abu Dhabi building.
The Court of Appeals has also ordered the killer to pay AED200,000 in blood money and granted the bereaved family to attend the convict’s execution.
The Pakistani boy, of European mother, joined his father in the UAE to live with his stepmother, five children, and elderly father.
He was reported missing on May 30, 2017, after he had gone to a nearby mosque to pray. His body was found the next day on the rooftop of the building on the Muroor Road.
A CCTV footage circulated online captured the killer disguised as a woman and making his way from the street into the building.
The video recording, which was used as compelling evidence, showed the defendant carrying a bag and walking behind the victim, as they both enter the elevator.
