The month of Ramadan is likely to start on Thursday, corresponding to May 17, said Kuwaiti astronomer Adel Al Saadoun, according to Al Qabas.
He noted that the crescent might not be visible in Kuwait and could only be seen through a telescope, while the inhabitants of the Arab Maghreb (western Arab world) will be able to see the crescent clearly.
Muslims observe fasting in Ramadan from dawn to dusk, in line with the Islamic doctrine. Eating, drinking or smoking in public places is prohibited by law.
