MANAMA: Standard Chartered Bank has announced the appointment of Kunal Varma as head of retail banking for Bahrain and GCC.
In his new role, Mr Varma will be driving and executing the bank’s retail banking strategy in the Bahrain and within the GCC countries, a key region for the bank in the Middle East.
“I am pleased to welcome Kunal back to the region, after three years in Jersey,” said Standard Chartered Bank Bahrain and GCC chief executive Dr Boutros Klink.
“With 20 years of banking experience and significant accomplishments, Kunal brings a wealth of experience to Bahrain, and I look forward to his leadership in delivering on the aspirations for the business and ensuring that Standard Chartered Bank continues to support the kingdom’s development, bringing the latest in digitisation and technological advancement, developing the local talent, contributing significantly to the Bahraini community.
“Kunal will be focusing on strengthening all aspects of customer service to ensure a superior banking experience,” added Dr Klink.
He will also focus on training and developing local Bahraini talent in leadership positions and continuing to raise Standard Chartered’s profile as a leading provider of retail banking products and services.
Prior to his new role in Bahrain, Mr Varma was the head of retail banking in Jersey.
His experience spans 20 years of banking and financial consulting across the Middle East and Europe.
He joined Standard Chartered in 2009 and has been instrumental in growing the franchise in the UAE and across the Middle Eastern markets.
